FAQ about UPS 2nd

Author : Date : 2013-3-16 16:33:05

Q1. What is UPS?
A: The full name of UPS is “Uninterruptible Power Supply”. It can immediately supply computers mains to
maintain the normal operation when power failure or abnormity.
Q2. Why should I need UPS?
A: Un-stable power quality will effect the operation of computers. UPS will not only immediately supply
power to computers while power failure, but also protect against wide utility voltage. It will also offer
users pure power and store your important data whether you are there or not. Therefore, UPS becomes
more and more important equipment for computer & 3C users.
Q3. How many types of UPS?
A: There are three typical types of UPS: OFF-LINE, ON-LINE, and LINE INTERACTIVE.

Q4. What is called OFF LINE UPS?
A: Off-line UPS will supply power only when power failure.

Q5. What is called ON LINE UPS?
A: Under normal situation, On-line UPS will supply power after rectification and will transfer to bypass only
when UPS is out of order, overload, or overheat. Normally, the On-line UPS provides the pure Sine wave
output which is same as the mains provide by power plants.

Q6. What is called LINE INTERACTIVE UPS?
A: Under normal situation, Line Interactive UPS will supply power from bypass through transformer.
At this moment, transformer becomes charger. When power failure, transformer will transfer battery
    power to AC output.

Q7. How to choose the right UPS?
1. Understand specifications of all UPS.
2. Consider the requirements of power quality.
3. Understand the current capacity of UPS and consider the future expanding.
4. Choose the reputed brands and manufacturers.
5. Choose UPS based on your requirements.

Q8. What are important items you should evaluate when buying an UPS?
1. UPS reliability and stability.
2. The excellent engineers and the ability of products creation.
3. High efficiency and low noise.
4. Suppliers'reputation and financial situation.
5. International safety approvals such as TUV,UL,CSA, and so on.
6. Plant certifications such as ISO9001, ISO9002, and so on.

Q9. Do I need UPS when I live where seldom power failure happens?
A: In fact, power failure is one of power problem. The other power problems such as high voltage,
low voltage, and spike are the main problems. The purposes of UPS is to provide customers the
overall power protection such as voltage regulation, surge protection, spike, and sags protection.
It also provides extended back up time without any limitation.

Q10. What could I use for the RJ11 connector on the rear panel of UPS?
A: RJ11 connector is used to protect the phone line. Hence, you can connect your phone; fax machine,
modem and ADSL with it for better protection.

Q11. How many kinds of Power problems?
A: Except the blackout, there are Sags, Spikes, Surges, Noise & Transients will make the PC or other
high technical equipment damage or shorten the lifetime.

Q12. What kinds of equipment should I use with the UPS? Is there any limit for it?
A: Normally, the UPS is used for PC, high technical equipment & medical appliances. Because of most
UPS are designed for PC, so not all the equipment could be connected with it. Especially, conducting
loads just like cooling fans, refrigerators that have the motors. These kinds of equipment will damage
the UPS. Moreover, copy machine and laser printers that have huge starting current also could not be
used with UPS. The huge starting current will impact the capacity of UPS.

Q13. What is the impact of different output waveforms?
A: There are three major types of loads: Resistive load (Lamps); SPS load (PC power supply) & Conductive
Load (Motors). All the types of load can be used with Pure Sinewave. However, only Resistive and SPS
loads can be used with Modified Sinewave.
Q14. What is the impact to the PC with different transfer time?
A: Except On-Line UPS, there will be a short transfer time between 2ms to 10 ms for the power
transformation with OFF-LINE & LINE INTERACTIVE UPS. Normally, when the blackout happens, the
power supply of PC could continue the power for 16ms. Hence, most PC will still work functionally with
    the short transfer time.

Q15. What is the battery type of UPS?
A: Most UPS use Lead-acid maintenance-free batteries. This kind of battery is sealed so the UPS can be
located with any direction and it does not void the poison gas during charging and discharging. So it also
    could be an indoor installation.

Q16. What is the lifetime of batteries?
A: The battery lifetime depends on the ambient temperature and frequency of charging and discharging.
Higher ambient temperature and frequent charging and discharging will reduce batteries'' lifetime.
We offer one year battery lifetime guarantee. However, the battery lifetime is close to three years
    under normal use.
